Juan José Vergara (University of Cadiz)
Juan José Vergara graduated in Biology in 1988 from Univ. Málaga (PhD Thesis in 1993), he moved to the Faculty of Marine and Environmental Sciences of the Univ. Cádiz, where he got a permanent position in the area of Ecology in 1998 and the chair in 2010. Teaching focused mainly on the degrees in Marine and Environmental Sciences (Ecology) as well as in the Master’s Degrees in Oceanography and on Coastal Management. Research has been focused on the ecophysiology of marine macrophytes (macroalgae and seagrasses), as well as the ecology of benthic ecosystems. Regarding management, from 2010 to 2016 he was responsible for his research group (2010-16). From 2014 to 2016 he was Director of the Marine Research Laboratory Labimar (Cádiz), to become DG Scientific Projection (Vic. Research), and from 2017 to 2019, General Coordinator of the international Campus of Excellence of the Sea CEI·MAR.
